Designing timeless stories from concept to cover

Focused on quality storytelling and craftsmanship, books from the manor are bound in a home studio making personalisation possible and your collection uniquely yours.

Books are conceptualised and written over an allocated period. Each story has its own journey with some books being written across borders and others in small South African towns that provide ease and the quiet necessary for concentration and creativity.

Once a manuscript is finalised, a cover is designed and the editing process begins.

Printing

After we carry out our rigorous editing process, sheets of FSC certified uncoated, wood free paper are cut into size and slotted into a printer where they will bear a new story.

Binding

Now it's time for binding the block. A block is the paper inner that forms the body of your book. Pages are folded down the middle, perforated near the fold in a series of holes down the length of the block and beeswax coated linen thread is slipped into each perforation, binding the pages of your soon-to-be novel together.

Soft Cover

Once the block is firmly bound, the spine is coated with non-toxic glue and a sheet of muslin cloth for extra care before being left to dry. Then glue is applied to the inner spine of a beeswax polished cover and attached to the block. Thereafter the book is placed within a wooden press where it's left to dry and bind for the next two days.
